DAMA’s roadshow was to promote its
biennial music awards, the Anugerah Muzik Dayak (AMD 2012) which is to be held
in Kuching on Saturday 24 November at the state-of-the-art Dewan Tunku Abdul
Rahman (DeTAR) Putra or simply DeTAR Putra inside University Malaysia Sarawak
(UNIMAS) campus in Kota Samarahan.It has a seating capacity of 4,000.Tickets
for awards night which will be on sale soon are priced at RM30 and RM50
respectively.
Recently, the association appointed New Sarawak
Tribune and its sister paper Utusan Sarawak as its AMD 2012 media
partners.WaiFM and RTM are also its other media partners.
Sibu was the first leg of DAMA’s four
roadshows with the next ones slated for Bintulu on 25 August followed by Miri
on 22 September and the final one in Kuching on 6 October.These roadshows are
held for the AMD 2012 promotion and membership drive as well as opportunity for
the main committee to meet members in the respective centres and discuss
relevant matters.
Hundreds of fans and shoppers thronged
the Star Megamall last Saturday evening to lend support to the show which
started at 6.00pm and ended at 10.30pm.
Crowds at the megamall were really
enthralled by performances from the likes of Urai who thrilled them with
Ngarapka Bisi Tedai Pengerindu and a Kenyah singer Daniel Bampa of Kuching who
rendered his own piece Iko’ Leto Ja’ Ake’ Ngeno’ (translated in Malay to mean
Engkaulah Gadis Idaman Ku).
Snowdan, who is also Balai Ringin
Assemblyman, stole the show by performing an instrumental number and toying
with his guitar together with the band Masterpiece.
Others performing included the Maring
siblings Edwin (Sanggup Nebang, Sanggup Ngesas), Simon and Moreen (Mutus Ati),
The Crew band, Richard Thias, Jessica Remaya, Royston Kulleh, Taju Remaung
band, Lerry Silas, Peter Aron, Sijah, Rhymuse Bilong, Donny Lang, Zukiladi,
Ethnic Transmission band, Gabriel Fairuz Louis, Monica Ellen, Carlos Haiqal,
Chi Cha, Bujang Lemanak and Leena Ranez.
Popular singer, composer and Panggau
Buluh Pengerindu (PBP) studio owner Embat Lala played host and emcee together
with Margaret.
Together they enlivened the show with a
series of games and quiz participated by selected members of the audience who
walked home with a variety of prizes including hampers and VCDs plus posters of
various DAMA artistes.
Highlighting the Saturday night event
was the presentation of a RM3,000 donation by DAMA to PERYATIM Sibu in
conjunction with the month of Ramadan.
During the presentation of the mock
cheque, all the DAMA main committee members came on stage to accompany Snowdan
in presenting it to a PERYATIM Sibu representative.Some twenty orphans also
went on stage to show their appreciation to the committee.
Earlier, DAMA also held a dialogue with
Dayak musicians and singers at the Paramount Hotel from 10.00am to 1.00pm. During the dialogue various matters
were discussed, especially pertaining to the AMD songs nomination and related
issues. In his address at the dialogue Snowdan
explained there would be 20 awards to be presented during this year’s AMD.
Three of the awards will be the
Lifetime Achievement Award for Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu categories.
The other 17 awards are as follows:
- Best Male Award (Open Category) – 1 award
- Best Female Awar d (Open Category) – 1 award
- Best Dayak Song Award (Iban, Bidayuh, Orang
Ulu) – 3 awards
- Best New Dayak Artiste Award (Open Category) –
1 award
- Best Group/Duo Vocal Performance in Group
Award (Open Category) – 1 award
- Album of the Year Award (Iban, Bidayuh, Orang
Ulu) – 3 awards
- Best Album Cover Award (Open Category) – 1
award
- Best Video Award (Open Category) – 1 award
- Best Lyric Award (Applicable for Iban Songs
only) – 1 award
- Best Music Arrangement Award (Open Category) –
1 award
- The remaining 3 awards are new awards which
will be confirmed and announced later on.Song nomination is open from 1
July and closes on 31 August.
The albums that should be sent for
nominations shall be those that are produced between 1 December 2010 and 31
August 2012.The Nomination Forms can be acquired from DAMA Office at Sublot
No.7, Tabuan Stutong Commercial Centre, Kuching anytime during office hours on
Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 5.00pm and 8.00am to 12.00pm (Saturday only).
